Past Experience

Peter’s racing history followed the well-worn path from go carts to open-wheelers.

He started riding motorbikes as a toddler, seeing Pete’s natural flare for all things petrol powered his father (a Qantas engineer) decided four wheels was safer than two and started taking Pete to local go cart tracks…

Followed by a stint in Car Club Super Sprints and Regularity competitions.

In 1995, Peter then went to England and attended the Jim Russell Drivers School at Donnington Park. “This was a real learning experience for me ” said Pete .

The art of becoming a professional driver and the skills required to stay at the top of the game were essential messages from the program.

After successfully completing the course, Peter was invited to stay there and work with the school as an instructor and race as a representative of the school.

Ultimately Winning the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School World Scholarship.

Peter returned to Australia in 1998 and commenced working for Mercedes-Benz as a Senior Advanced Driving Instructor and also for Porsche in their advanced training programs.

At the same time Peter began competing in the Australian Formula 3 Championship for a small Sydney based Ferrari workshop.

A close connection to Italian flare led to a long relationship with Lamborghini.

Driving the amazing Diablo GTR for Team Lamborghini Australia for many years, including at the Bathurst 24hr race.

After racing with Team Lamborghini, the opportunity to race the Mercedes-AMG SLS GT3 was provided. A natural progression given the continued relationship with Mercedes-Benz in Australia through their Driving Academy.

2016 AUSTRALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP

In 2015 Peter announced plans to return to GT racing. This move coinciding with the launch of the new Mercedes AMG GT3.

The two-time Australian GT runner-up was among the first to import AMG’s new GT3 challenger as part of a plan to form a new team to contest the 2016 Australian GT Championship.

“There is no surprise at the fact that I’m trying to get back into GT,” Hackett told Speedcafe.com.

“My time in the SLS was cut short.  Logically the AMG GT is where I need to be and what I need to do, we are forging ahead trying to make sure we are at the front of the grid this year with the new AMG GT.

I’m as confident as I’ve ever been and probably more confident than when we when we put the SLS program together.

The AMG GT was recently put through its paces at Phillip Island and the signs are good. “I couldn’t be happier with the car” Peter said.

HYT Peter Hackett, new “friend of the brand”

— The Australian motorsports racer Peter Hackett joins the HYT family.

A year ago, HYT introduced its first ambassador, Jean-Eric Vergne from the motorsports industry and competing as a racing driver at the FIA Formula E. At the beginning of the year, HYT reinforced its position in the racing industry by launching its partnership with Peter Li Zhi Cong, the young FIA F3 racer from China. Today, the brand announces its latest addition to its racing family, Australian Friend of the Brand Chief Driving Instructor of Mercedes-Benz and race driver of the AMG GT3, Peter Hackett.

Vincent Perriard explained that Peter is a huge fan of the brand and, more importantly, he is a proud owner of an HYT watch, the H1 Titanium Black DLC that he bought long time before discussing about this partnership. Peter perfectly knows the brand as a final customer and he completely falls for the complexity of our products. « This kind of association is just unique for a brand. « Indeed, to have your final client as your ambassador is the best thing a brand can imagine to have » Perriard said.

Hackett loves innovation, science, passion and technology, it’s why he chose the HYT’s Skull Green Eye for testing it during its daily life and during a year fully planned of races.

The two-time Australian GT runner-up is among the first to import Mercedes-Benz’ new GT3 challenger to form a new team to contest the 2016 Australian GT Championship. HYT will be supporting Peter Hackett  and his team Eggleston Motorsport in the AMG GT3 for the 2016 season.
